Biography
Alex is a senior partner in our Intellectual Property (IP) team. He provides strategic advice to businesses in relation to the creation, protection, exploitation and enforcement of intellectual property rights of all kinds. He has a particular focus on patent disputes and is among relatively few lawyers practising primarily outside London with extensive experience in this specialist area of law.
Alex spends most of his time helping businesses to identify, manage and resolve contentious issues relating to intellectual property rights. His strategic approach to dispute resolution and early case analysis frequently enables clients to avoid or settle disputes without litigation. He is a staunch opponent of the kind of approach which sees businesses get themselves trapped in lengthy and expensive court proceedings which cost more (in fees and management time) than they are ever likely to achieve.
He also helps clients to understand their intellectual property rights better, to secure appropriate IPR protection for what they create, and to realise the value of that IPR by commercialising it.
Alex’s practice focuses primarily on the engineering and technology sectors, and he also has extensive experience in the retail (particularly FMCG) sector.
