I have several years' experience of a wide variety of family law issues. I particularly specialise in advising and supporting clients in relation to the financial implications of their relationship breakdown. I am able to offer clients detailed advice about their legal entitlements involved with the division of matrimonial property, pensions, and the family income for themselves and for any children.
My role includes guiding clients through the divorce process and the various Court hearings that may arise if their case is litigated. As I am a qualified Solicitor-Advocate, I quite often undertake the advocacy for those hearings myself to ensure continuity for the clients.
My role also includes advising on disputes that arise between separated parents about arrangements for their children.
No two cases are ever the same and so my approach to every new client is to take the time to get to know them and understand their individual priorities and concerns. I am then able to provide targeted and cost effective advice to suit their particular circumstances.
What inspired you to get into law?
A childhood fascination with Courtroom TV dramas combined with an argumentative streak! Family law made the perfect fit for me as it combines the structured and detailed application of the law with the human interest perspective which suits my sociable nature.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
It is immensely satisfying to assist and support Family Law clients during one of life's most stressful and painful experiences and see them come out the other side with confidence and renewed hope for their future.
I am also motivated by the challenge of Court advocacy to persuade the Court that the outcome my clients want is fair.
What do you do away from the office?
Outside of work I have a love for netball and, as well as playing multiple times per week, I have recently obtained a umpiring qualification. I also enjoy music and singing and am an enthusiastic member of a local amateur choir.
“My case took around a year (due to COVID restrictions) and I cannot imagine or even comprehend the impact that would have had on me and my children if I were to deal with it on my own without the support, advice and hard work of Gemma & Grace…
…They were incredibly responsive to any questions I had and any emails I sent. If they were unavailable, they ensured there was someone named who would support or direct me in their short-term absence. Everyone else I came across during the last year also worked with such high professional values that I expected from Irwin Mitchell; I was so impressed by that. Thank you.” - 5* Trustpilot review
