Biography
I qualified as a Costs Lawyer in 2017. I was a founding member of the Costs Budgeting Team (founded in 2014) and was promoted to the position of Deputy Team Leader in 2018.
I am experienced in preparing, negotiating and advocating on costs budgets, as well as being involved in the training and supervision of other members of the team.
What inspired you to get into law?
I would say I'm analytical, pedantic and argumentative and while these may not be the most endearing traits, I believe they're all well suited to a career in law. I’ve always been pretty good with numbers too, which led me to undertake a degree in accounting. Working in costs law offers quite a nice balance for my skillset.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
I’d say there are two things I find particularly rewarding in my role. One is achieving a really good result at a costs management hearing. I enjoy the advocacy side of my role and a positive result at a hearing is an indicator of a job well done.
The other aspect I find particularly rewarding is training more junior members of the team. I get a lot of satisfaction from sharing my knowledge and experience to help with the development of others.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
I think my favourite thing about working for Irwin Mitchell is the opportunities to further your career.
I began working at the firm in 2009 as a Claims Administrator. Since then I’ve held a number of roles running my own personal injury case loads before moving into costs and undertaking the ACL Costs Lawyer qualification (funded and supported by Irwin Mitchell).
What do you do away from the office?
Away from the office, I enjoy watching and playing football (albeit at a very low standard). I reluctantly partake in a bit of running/gym-going to try to maintain some semblance of fitness.
I always have a book on the go and like a good film or box set. With two children to keep me busy, I find I don’t have time for much else.
