My role as an Associate in the Elderly and Vulnerable team is varied and covers a wide range of work within this area.
I am part of our Later Life Management Committee, which means I am involved in a range of initiatives to promote the importance of planning for later life. This enables me to work with a wide range of professionals in this field, which I really enjoy.
I have a particular interest in the law in regards to mental capacity. In my role, I help many people who no longer have the capacity to manage their own financial and property affairs.
I am experienced in the preparation of Powers of Attorney, applications to the Court of Protection, issues of mental capacity, undue influence, long-term care planning and administering the financial affairs of the elderly and vulnerable. The Elderly & Vulnerable team manage a diverse range of cases and we can advise on a wide range of issues in this sphere.
What inspired you to get into law?
Having read many John Grisham novels, I knew that a legal career was for me! I felt drawn to a profession where I could work with people to make things better for them personally and to achieve a fair and just result.
I enjoyed life as a Family and Childcare Lawyer for several years, but I always had an interest in Court of Protection and elderly and vulnerable work generally. I am now lucky enough to be able to practice at Irwin Mitchell. Working closely with individuals and their families to achieve the best possible outcomes is a fundamental part of a legal career. I can’t imagine doing anything else.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
Working with elderly and vulnerable clients and their families to achieve the best outcome for them is a really positive experience. It’s really rewarding to be involved in that decision making process and that’s important to me.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
I really enjoy working for a national law firm because the work is very diverse and no two days are ever the same. It is a real privilege to be part of such a strong team of lawyers. This not only provides an opportunity to build working relationships nationally, but there is an abundance of team spirit and sense of unity. This makes the IM experience more than 'just a job'.
What do you do away from the office?
I love to run, play tennis and go on long bike rides in the countryside with my twin boys. If I have any spare time aside from that, I like to bake delectable treats!
