I advise individuals and families of high net worth, sometimes with assets outside the UK, on all aspects of UK estate planning. This includes inheritance tax planning, preparing Wills, creating trusts, acting as trustee and advising trustees on the administration of their trusts.
I enjoy working with my clients’ other trusted advisers to achieve holistic planning for individuals and families. My clients can have owner-managed business considerations, blended families, elderly relatives, and often have complex tax and trust issues. I also carry out estate administration for my clients.
What Inspired You To Get Into Law?
During my previous career in film, I constantly found myself drawn to technical documentation issues. I would immerse myself in the details of the various agreements and negotiations which were required.
I finally decided to change my career and started my legal training just after my daughter was born.
I was also fortunate to get exposure to the law from a very young age. I used to help out at my mother’s law practice whenever I could throughout my teens and twenties. So I had some idea of what I was getting myself into.
What Is The Most Rewarding Aspect Of Your Role?
Working with families and business owners, and advising successive generations on their estate planning, and often their trust administration.
I quickly realised when training that forming close and trusted relationships with my clients and their families through this area of practice is hugely rewarding.
What Do You Like About Working At Irwin Mitchell?
It’s great to be part of such a large and thriving firm with specialists on hand in every area of law. I know that there is someone in the team who can handle any tricky issue my client might face.
Although I’ve only been with Irwin Mitchell a very short time, I trained at Thomas Eggar in the same building I'm working in now and so it already feels like home. Lots of old faces, and all the ’new’ ones are very friendly and supportive.
What Do You Do Away From The Office?
I have a teenage daughter who is working her way through the last years of school. We do lots together including yoga and spend far too much time fussing over and walking our dog. I also enjoy listening to live jazz with my husband when we can, and I’m currently looking for a choir to join.
