I am a Senior Associate Solicitor in the Asbestos Related Disease team in the Birmingham office. I've specialised in asbestos related claims for more than 13 years.
I have particular expertise in mesothelioma claims, securing numerous successful outcomes for clients including settlements with agreements to fund future immunotherapy treatments. I head up a team which deals with claims for pleural thickening and asbestosis and am also a specialist in claims for benign asbestos-related illnesses.
I've worked for Irwin Mitchell since 2001, having trained with the firm, and have a background in other types of occupational disease claims and other types of personal injury claims.
What inspired you to get into law?
I’ve always enjoyed the law since first studying the subject at school. The ever-changing nature of legal practice and constantly evolving challenges that the law presents inspire me each day to work as hard as possible for the benefit of all those I represent.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is to help those who have developed asbestos-related illnesses, through no fault of their own. Securing settlements with funding for immunotherapy, which may extend my clients’ lives, and damages which give financial security to loved ones is why I continue to practice in this area.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
Irwin Mitchell as a firm has a deserved and unique national reputation for getting results for our clients while delivering exceptional client service. Our desire to innovate and maximise client outcomes continues to inspire me.
The level and breadth of knowledge in the firm is a constant source of strength, as is the fact that clients get the highest quality of legal representation whatever their legal needs.
What do you do away from the office?
Away from the office, I'm kept busy by my young family. When I get a spare moment, I'm an armchair sports fan, being a lifelong (and long-suffering) supporter of Tottenham Hotspur.
"I cannot praise highly enough the professionalism and compassion which I received from Iain Shoolbred when dealing with the case in relation to my late husband. It was a very difficult and long case not helped by the fact that I live in Spain and medical records were difficult to access and required translating. A successful conclusion was reached, Iain understood my difficulty emotionally and for that I am grateful." - 5* Trustpilot review
"I can't thank Iain Shoolbred enough for the advice and support he offered to me and my family during the very most difficult time in our lives. Nothing was to much trouble for him he often reiterated the facts to me in what I call layman's terms and he did it with the utmost compassion he truly got the very most he redeemed that was right for me and my family." - 5* Trustpilot review
"It has been a long and difficult emotional process for me. Iain has always been very considerate and helpful, guiding us through a complicated and detailed procedure and he has achieved a very successful result for us. Iain was always very professional, but kind and understanding of our situation, and kept us up to date with the process all the way through. We felt like he really cared" - 5* Trustpilot review
"It has been a long battle to gain compensation but Iain pulled it off. Although the litigation he kept me fully informed, either with personnel visits, email and letters. I cannot thank him and his associates for all their help."" - 5* Trustpilot review
"He led our claim with kindness and compassion. Whilst it was a lengthy process, he communicated and explained the legal procedures thoroughly. He brought our case to a successful conclusion and the family and I will be forever grateful. I would thoroughly recommend (& have done) using Irwin Mitchell Solicitors and I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Iain and his team for all their efforts and support at very difficult time" - 5* Trustpilot review
